• Green carpet moth - it's common apparently

We have a pretty good array of moths coming and going at Hill House Farm, but although I am sure they've been around us all the time I can't say I've ever spotted this one before. It's called the Green carpet and once you get close up you can really appreciate the beauty and intricacy of its stunning wings. It is less than one inch across & simply fluttered on to the old bricks on the path at my feet, and since the book tells me that not only is it common, but that the green colour of the wings often fades soon after emerging I'm assuming this one was drying its wings after having just emerged. Ok, it is common, but it is still a stunner.
